Sunchild Child & Family Services Finds New Home in Downtown Red Deer

Often in real estate, transactions are seen merely as they are. But when a community organization serving families and children finds the perfect space to expand its impact, it’s more than just business—it’s a community milestone worth celebrating.

Sunchild Child & Family Services has recently completed the acquisition of office space in Red Deer, located at the former BMO building (4903 50 Ave). The organization held a traditional on-site blessing ceremony to mark this milestone in their expansion.

This new downtown location will serve as a vital sub-office and resource hub supporting families and community programs throughout central Alberta. Situated in the heart of Red Deer, the building offers accessibility and visibility—key factors for organizations delivering family and child services. Its proximity to government offices, local agencies, and health resources allows for stronger collaboration across community programs.

The addition of Sunchild’s office contributes to the ongoing revitalization of downtown Red Deer. More community-focused organizations are choosing to locate in the city’s core, transforming former commercial buildings into welcoming, purpose-driven spaces. These changes breathe new life into the area, turning once transactional environments into places of connection and care.

This move reflects Red Deer’s growing commitment to community infrastructure that prioritizes accessibility and inclusion. As downtown evolves, organizations like Sunchild strengthen the social fabric of the city—ensuring that families have access to culturally responsive services in spaces designed for support and healing.

For Sunchild Child & Family Services, this expansion represents an important step forward in their mission to empower Indigenous children and families. Through their new sub-office and resource hub, they can reach more communities while staying true to their cultural values and traditions. Their programs emphasize prevention, family reunification, and cultural preservation across central Alberta.

The traditional blessing ceremony held at the new office honoured both the land and the community.

This symbolizes Sunchild’s deep respect for their roots and the importance of grounding their work in ceremony. As they open their doors in downtown Red Deer, Sunchild begins a new chapter, one that continues their dedication to family, culture, and community connection.
